    LIVING LIFE and HAVING FUN

Having fun is about striking a balance. Balance is the key to understanding the role of having fun vs. meeting real-world obligations in our lives. We can’t really appreciate fun without the counterbalance of work and the responsibilities of living. And we can’t truly value our work until we incorporate fun into our lives. For example, we may appreciate eating ice cream as a real source of pleasure, but what if our diets consisted of nothing but ice cream?. Or to take another example, a vacation is pleasurable, but only if we have a job to go back to at the end of the vacation.

Most of us tend to look for a perfect life, a perfect job, a perfect spouse, a perfect child, a perfect relationship and many other perfect things in an imperfect world. In this search for perfection we miss out on the smaller joys of life as aptly described in the story below

“A house becomes a home when you can write ‘I love you’ on the furniture”. I can’t tell you how many countless hours that I have spent cleaning. I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect – ‘in case someone came over.’ Then I realised one day that no-one came over; they were all out living life and having fun!

Now, when people visit, I find no need to explain the condition of my home. They are more interested in hearing about the things I’ve been doing while I was away living life and having fun. If you haven’t quite figured this out as yet, please heed this advice.

Life is short, so enjoy it! Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better to paint a picture or write a letter, bake a cake or plant a seed, or even ponder the difference between want and need? Dust if you must, but there’s not much time, with rivers to swim and mountains to climb, music to hear and books to read, friends to cherish and life to lead. Dust if you must, but the worlds out there with the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair, a flutter of snow, a shower of rain.

This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind, old age will come and it’s not kind.

And when you go – and go you must, you, yourself will make more dust! It’s not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived … and remember, a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.”

Having Fun in life requires just the right number and variety of ingredients – a fine mix of humor, amusement, laughter, pleasure engaging in an activity that makes you happy and hope. Spontaneity is a key ingredient.

So Friends this New Year enjoy have fun with whatever you do, make Fun happen and have a blast. Remember this is your life and you get this opportunity only once.

Keep Smiling !! Wishing you and your loved ones A Very Happy, Health & Prosperous 2016
